Why these results?
The information provided on this page is dynamic and is updated according to the information you have entered in the search form. If you search with changed search criteria, this page will be updated.
Using the search criteria you have specified, a double search is carried out by the system: on metadata and on data. The search on metadata provides datasets and online accesses to them. The search on data provides selected features. If any of the two searches return results, the dataset is displayed in the list of results.
Therefore, according to the information you have entered in the search form, the list of results shows those datasets:- whose metadata (title, description or keywords) meet the search text entered.
- whose boundary intersect with the spatial delimitation inserted.
- that are relevant to the selected topic categories.
- that are of the selected types.
- that have an on-line access of any of the selected formats.
- having features (records, documents, faults, mineral occurrence, etc.) in them that meet the search criteria.
Text search
You have entered the text . However, the system does not only search based on this text. It processed your search text to improve and enrich the search and get better results. Through the multilingual thesaurus, the system will obtain the narrower, broader and related terms and translations related to each of the words obtained from the search string.Tokens

When typing a search text, the similarity with this text is the factor that most influences the order of the results. The system quantifies the order as a weighted sum of values coming from:
Some elements are included in the weighted sum to obtain the final relevance score, but they usually have influence if you have not entered a search text:
- Similarity between the search text (or any of its translations) and the dataset title.
- Similarity between the search text (or any of its translations) and the dataset description.
- Similarity between the search text (or any of its translations) and the dataset keywords.
- Similarity between the broader/narrower terms (or any of their translations) and the dataset title.
- Similarity between the broader/narrower terms (or any of their translations) and the dataset description.
- Similarity between the broader/narrower term (or any of their translations) and the dataset keywords.
- Relevance of the dataset. Some dataset may be considered more relevant than others.
- Scale.Some dataset might be relevant at certain scales and irrelevant at others.
- Area of the intersection of the dataset and the search area. Having two dataset with the same relevance and scale, the one that has more intersection surface with the search geometry should be shown first.
Dataset that have been searched inside
The system searches inside some dataset, providing subsets of records in a database, documents in a document repository or faults in a fault database.The number of features selected for a dataset is shown in a green box:
Once you click on the green button, a viewer is opened to display the selected features on a map (if they have a spatial component) and their main attribute values in a table.
When a dataset is not found in the metadata-based search but, with the same search criteria, features are found inside the dataset, then the dataset will be displayed in the results list.
When a search text is typed and a dataset is found in the metadata-based search, but the search on data returns no features, the system shows 0 features and warning because the system allows you to open features that could be valid for the search in the selected spatial boundary.
