How do we determine the order of results?
The order of the datasets listed depends on many factors (in order of importance):
  • Similarity between the search text and the dataset title.
  • Similarity between the search text and the dataset description.
  • Similarity between the search text and the dataset keywords.
  • Institutional relevance of the dataset.
  • Dataset relevance for the selected topics.
  • Similarity between the area of the search polygon and the area of the dataset boundary.
  • Area of the intersection of the dataset and the search area.

Why is this catalog not showing all the available datasets?
This catalog displays results depending on the filters applied:
  • Text search. Only datasets with title, description or keywords similar to the typed search text will be displayed.
  • Spatial filter. Only datasets which boundary intersects the search area will be displayed. Databases and popular map series are shown at all scales. However, maps will be presented if their area is similar to the area of the search polygon. For example, when searching at national level, local or regional maps will not be shown. In a similar way, when searching at local level, national maps will not be shown.
  • Filter by type. Only datasets of the selected types will be displayed.
  • Filter by topic. Only datasets belonging to the selected topic categories will be displayed.
  • Filter by format. Only datasets with a distribution in the selected formats will be displayed.
If several filters are used, the results list will display the intersection of the results returned from each of them.
When you first open the catalog (without text or spatial search or filter by type, topic or format) only databases and popular map series are displayed.
MAGNA 3.0 - Geological map of Spain, scale 1:50.000
The Geological Map of Spain 3rd series is a new cartographic product that represents an update and improvement of the geological cartography of the MAGNA series and is extended with new cartographies aimed at being an infrastructural base for land use planning (thematic geomorphological and active processes cartography). In the Geologic Map the nature of the materials (rocks and sediments) appearing on the terrestrial surface are represented, its spatial distribution and the geometric relations between the different cartographic units. A geologic cartographic unit is the grouping of one or several lithologies within a common age interval, that has a representation in the map to a defined scale or resolution. Each cartographic unit, as well as the different geologic structures, are displayed on the map with their own simbology. The representation of these units on top the topographic map provides some three-dimensional information that is completed with other geological data and geological sections, stratigraphic profiles, boreholes, etc. The map legend is a pictogram representing the spatial relationship between the different cartographic units (chronology, superposition, geometric relationship, lateral facies changes, etc.). It also includes structural, hydrogeological and geological location schemas of the sheet within its regional level.

MAGNA 50 - Geological map of Spain, scale 1:50.000
The National Geological Map (MAGNA in Spanish), was conducted between 1972 and 2003 by the Spanish Geological Survey (IGME). It is distributed in 1: 50.000 sheets (1:25.000 in the particular cases of the Canary Islands, Ibiza-Formentera, Menorca, Ceuta and Melilla). GEODE - Continuous digital geological map of Spain , scale 1:50.000
This map shows the result of the cartographic homogenization of the MAGNA series (The National Geological Map 1:50.000 scale). Due to the lengthy execution of this series, there are many differences between the first and the last maps. ir initial and final phases regarding allocation criteria geological units, level of detail, continuity of geological units and structures at the edges of sheets, codification and symbology are noticed. In order to correct coding and symbol problems, differences in the level of detail, geological units and structures continuity, in 2004 the GEODE project began. This project addressed the creation of a 1:50.000 scale continuous digital geological map. The project includes 19 regional projects linked to their corresponding geological areas. The three main goals of GEODE project are: • To provide cartographic continuity to the geological sheets of MAGNA series within each region. • To generate a unified legend of geological units for each region. • To adapt the geological features to a unified topographic map, created within the GEODE project from the Spanish Topographic Map 1:25000 of the National Geographic Institute (IGN). Esta aplicación permite acceder a la base de datos del Inventario Español de Lugares de Interés Geológico (IELIG) que, de acuerdo con la Ley 42/2007, debe elaborar y actualizar el Ministerio de Agricultura, Alimentación y Medio Ambiente, con la colaboración de las Comunidades Autónomas y de las instituciones de carácter científico. El Real Decreto 1274/2011, encomienda al IGME la finalización de este inventario.

Spanish Land Movements Database
Spanish national inventory of land movements. It includes movements of the terrain with geological gravitational origin that affect Spanish territory as landslides movements: landslides, falls, flows, etc., vertical movements: subsidence, collapses, expansiveness and marine landslides. It does not include movements of tectonic origin such as those produced by earthquakes or continental drift or of volcanic origin. BD-MOVES is structured in two blocks or sets of georeferenced spatial information: the one referring to the description of the intrinsic and relatively invariable characteristics of the movement of the terrain and the one referring to the different activity events that produced those movements, including morphometry, factors triggers and damages, among other data.

Mapa Hidrogeológico de España a escala 1:200.000
Mapa con las unidades cronolitoestratigráficas diferenciadas según sus características hidrogeológicas divididas en impermeables y permeables distinguidas por colores y tramas que sirve de base para la representación de divisorias de cuencas superficiales y subterráneas, direcciones de flujo subterráneo, isopiezas, surgencias y puntos de control. En el mapa principal figuran además diversos esquemas a escala 1:500.000 con información exclusivamente hidrogeológica. La información complementaria, que normalmente se incluye en otra hoja, se compone de mapas de sistemas acuíferos, de calidad química, focos de contaminación, cultivos y consumos, gráficos de evolución y de distribución de iones.

Mapa Geomorfológico de España a escala 1:50.000
El mapa geomorfológico es una cartografía basada en la interpretación genética del paisaje reciente y orientada a la planificación del territorio y la ordenación ambiental. Este mapa proporciona una información estructurada y precisa de los depósitos superficiales y las formas del terreno. Su leyenda,inspirada en la del mapa geológico,presenta una doble entrada: morfogenética y cronológica. Los elementos del mapa reciben un color en función de su asignación morfogenética. Las formas, erosivas y deposicionales están representadas en el mapa por símbolos y tramas cuyo color está dictado por su morfogéneis. Los depósitos o formaciones superficiales,que aportan información litológica, se expresan mediante recintos de color diferente según su cronología, dentro de una gama asignada por el criterio genético.

ZESIS - Zonación Sismogénica de Iberia
ZESIS es una base de datos de zonas sismogénicas de la Península Ibérica y territorios de influencia desarrollada para el cálculo de la actualización del mapa de peligrosidad sísmica de España (IGN-UPM, 2013). ZESIS es el resultado de la evolución de tres modelos sucesivos en los que han colaborado numerosos investigadores tanto de centros de investigación nacionales como internacionales, y de la sinergia de los proyectos FASEGEO (CGL2009-09726), SHARE (FP7-226967), IBERFAULT (CGL2009-07388), OPPEL (IGN-UPM) y SISMOGEN (IGME).

Mapa Geotécnico General a escala 1:200.000. Mapa de interpretación geotécnica
Distribución espacial de unidades cartográficas diferenciadas por sus características y condiciones constructivas determinadas a partir de la composición litológica de los materiales, sus propiedades hidrogeológicas y naturaleza geomorfológica. Se incluye además una zonación o división en unidades homogéneas basada en la litología, establilidad, capacidad de carga y otras propiedades mecánicas y geotécnicas. Mediante el color se representan las condiciones constructivas, clasificadas en muy favorables, favorables, aceptables, desfavorables y muy desfavorables. La problemática de cada unidad se presenta con una trama que toma el color según sean las condiciones constructivas. La base topográfica de los mapas procede del Mapa Militar de España a escala 1:200.000.

Mapa Geológico de la Península Ibérica, Baleares y Canarias a escala 1:1.000.000, edición 1995
El Mapa Geológico de la Península Ibérica, Baleares y Canarias o Mapa Geológico de España a escala 1:1.000.000 es un mapa desarrollado por el Instituto Geológico y Minero de España (IGME) de forma cíclica desde su fundación, siendo la versión de 1995 la primera en digitalizarse. Este mapa es una infraestructura de conocimiento geológico homogéneo y global a una unidad geológica de escala continental como es la Península Ibérica. El Mapa contiene las unidades cronolitoestratigráficas con representación de la estructura tectónica mediante fallas y cabalgamientos. Además está acompañado por dos leyendas cronolitoestratigráficas (Península y Baleares e Islas Canarias) y los signos convencionales. Cada una de las unidades geológicas tiene asociada su descripción, los tipos de rocas dominantes y la edad cronoestratigráfica con precisión hasta el Piso, cuando está disponible. No existe diferencia entre los contactos de las unidades cartográficas, considerándose todos ellos como contactos litológicos, a excepción de aquellos que son producto de las fallas. El mapa es consistente con una base topográfica a escala 1:1.000.000 anterior a la BCN 1000 del IGN que sólo se encuentra disponible en formato papel. La información geológica de la Península Ibérica e Islas Baleares se encuentra en proyección UTM, huso 30, datum Postdam. La información de las Islas Canarias se encuentra en proyección UTM, huso 28, datum Pico de las Nieves. El mapa se distribuye gratuitamente en formato shape a través de la página Web del IGME.

Esta serie cartográfica está orientada a la síntesis regional del conocimiento cartográfico obtenido de la serie 1:50.000 MAGNA. Esta serie incide en la representación de las relaciones geométricas de las grandes unidades geológicas. Como documento de síntesis regional orientado a la resolución de problemas geológicos regionales integra cartografías de varias escalas así como datos derivados de proyectos de investigación. Su formato es semejante al de los mapas geológicos de la serie MAGNA con una memoria más completa y detallada.

QAFI - Quaternary Faults Database of Iberia
QAFI is a database of faults showing geological evidence of activity during the Quaternary (last 2.6 million years). The objective of the database is two-fold: 1. Serve as an official repository of scientific information available to all the researcher’s community, and 2. To facilitate knowledge-transfer to the industry and society in general, particularly for improving seismic hazard provisions by means of including geological data from active faults. The database is hosted and maintained by the Geological Survey of Spain (IGME) in collaboration with the Laboratório Nacional de Energia e Geologia (LNEG, Portugal) and is freely accessible to the research and technical community and to society in general.

This cartography is a product resulting from the GEO_FPI project: GEO_FPI: cross-border observatory for the geo-economic evaluation of the Iberian Pyrite Belt, financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) within the program INTERREG V-A Spain– Portugal (POCTEP) 2014-2020. The main beneficiary of the project is the Geological and Mining Institute of Spain (IGME). Additionally, the General Directorate of Industry, Energy and Mines of the Ministry of Employment, Enterprise and Commerce of the Andalusian Government (JA) and the Portuguese National Laboratory for Energy and Geology (LNEG) and the Municipal Chamber of Aljustrel (CMA) are partners of the project.

El proyecto Mapa de Rocas y Minerales Industriales de Castilla y León a escala 1:400.000 es producto de un convenio de colaboración firmado en Julio de 2009 entre el Instituto Geológico y Minero de España (IGME) y la Sociedad de Investigación y Explotación Minera de Castilla y León (SIEMCALSA). La espectacular morfología glaciar esculpida sobre un basamento de rocas graníticas y metamórficas confiere al Parque Nacional de Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici múltiples atractivos que no pueden pasar desapercibidos a los visitantes. Esta guía es la llave para descubrir los secretos geológicos de este maravilloso Parque Nacional situado en el corazón del Pirineo. La última edad de hielo dio lugar a grandes glaciares que esculpieron las rocas graníticas formando picos agrestes, afiladas aristas y valles profundos. Las rocas desnudas nos muestran una historia tortuosa, que se expresa en forma de pliegues imposibles como los de las calizas de Els Encantats o de cristales que nos revelan el origen magmático de los granitos del parque. La huella actual de este episodio gélido son centenares de lagos, diseminados por todos los rincones, unidos por ríos que discurren por suaves meandros o saltan paredes rocosas formando ruidosas cascadas. Pero esta guía también nos muestra por un lado cómo el hombre, a lo largo de la historia, ha incidido sobre el paisaje geológico y por otro, los fenómenos naturales que pueden representar un peligro y cómo evitarlos.

Base de datos de depósitos de estériles y materiales gruesos vertidos en seco (escombreras) que se originan en las explotaciones de minas y canteras. Contiene el Inventario Nacional de Escombreras y Estructuras de Tipo Mixto con información relativa a características físicas y geológicas, tipo de minería, incidencia en el entorno, posibilidad de aprovechamiento, etc. Esta información ha sido obtenida mediante la realización del Inventario Nacional de Balsas y Escombreras de Residuos Mineros por parte del IGME de 1983 a 1989.

Parque Nacional de la Caldera del Taburiente
Las espectaculares morfologías volcánicas muy bien preservadas del Parque Nacional de la Caldera del Taburiente, como su entorno, constituyen un excepcional atractivo para sus visitantes y estudiosos. El gran espectáculo visual que supone el paisaje de la Caldera del Taburiente y todas sus formaciones geológicas ha llamado la atención de los geólogos y vulcanólogos del mundo que, desde comienzos del siglo XIX, han visitado la isla de La Palma. Esta geología tan singular y única, sitúa a la isla palmera como un ejemplo a escala mundial, por la evolución temporal desde su crecimiento submarino, hasta los grandes estratovolcanes que alcanzaron los 4000 metros. Estos valores geológicos hicieron que en 1954, la Caldera del Taburiente fuera declarada Parque Nacional. Fue el geólogo alemán. Leopold Von Buch, en el siglo XIX, el que introdujo en la terminología volcánica el término internacional “caldera”, tomado del vocablo palmero para describir los cráteres volcánicos de grandes dimensiones. Él mismo en su relato dice: «Los españoles han dado el nombre de caldera a estas cavidades. Nosotros empleamos esta misma palabra en sentido técnico».
